Allah the Almighty said:

“And I (Allah) created not the Jinns and men except they should worship Me (Alone).” (51:56)

Allah the Exalted said:

“And verily, We have sent among every community a Messenger. The message is: ‘Worship Allah (Alone). Keep away from all false deities except Allah.” (16:36)

Tawhid: Islam is the religion of Monotheism

Tawhid, the oneness of God, is the core of the Islamic faith. God created Mankind as a vicegerent. He assigned the duty to implement this concept on Earth in every aspect of life.

Humans must uphold justice and fairness, care for the environment, maintain moral and ethical behavior, foster spiritual growth, and promote social and economic development. Through these actions, they act as safe keepers of the Earth. This ensures a balanced and just society that reflects the will of God.

Tawhid must be clearly understood in the way it was taught by the Prophet (peace be upon him). It should be understood as it was by his companions. Otherwise, one could easily end up on one of the many deviant paths. These paths claim Tawhid, while engaging in praying zakat, fasting, and making hajj. Allah, the Most Wise mentions this phenomenon when He said in the Quran:

The Significance of Tawhid

Tawheed is the basic foundation of Islam on which all other pillars and principles depend. If Tawhid is not sound, the rest of one’s deen becomes, in effect, a series of pagan rituals.

Tawhid means “unification” i.e. making something one or “asserting oneness” and it comes from the Arabic verb wahhada which means to unite, or consolidate.

The Oneness of God in Islam

Allah is the originator of all existence. He alone brought everything into being and continues to govern and sustain the entire universe without any assistance or support.

Because Allah is the sole creator and sustainer of all that exists, worship is directed to Him alone. He alone is deserving of devotion, supplication, reverence, obedience, and trust.

Allah is completely distinct from His creation. While human beings may strive to embody certain noble qualities, only Allah possesses these attributes in their absolute, perfect, and infinite form.

“Say (O Muhammad): He is Allah, the One and Only! Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; needed by all. He never had offspring, nor He was born. And there is none comparable to him

[Surah ikhlas,verse 4]

Allah the most Merciful proclaimed:

That you should be dutiful to your parents. If one or both of them are old, don’t say a word of disrespect, neither shout nor be unkind. Address them in terms of honor. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say:

‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.’ ” (17:23,24)

And He said:

“Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship.” (4:36)

and He said:

“Say O Muhammad (peace be upon him ): Come. I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: You shall not involve anything in worship with Him. Be good and dutiful to your parents. Do not kill your children because of poverty.

We provide sustenance for you and them; do not come near to shameful sins (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly. Kill not anyone whom Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islamic law). This He has commanded you that you may understand.

Do not come near orphan’s property, except to improve it. This should be done until he (or she) attains the age of full strength. Provide full measure and weight with justice. We burden not any person, but that which he can bear.

Whenever you give your word (i.e. judge between men or give evidence, etc.), speak the truth even if a near relative is concerned, and fulfill the protocol of Allah. This He commands you, that you may remember.

And verily, this is My Straight Path. Follow it. Do not abide by other paths, for they will separate you from His track. He has ordained you that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious).” (6:151-153)
